GOODWOOD REVIVAL
WET WET WET
Revival in the rain. Part of what makes Goodwood so magical is that the stormy weekend weather only heightened the fun. For a start, wet racing can be way more entertaining than dry racing, and as a result, under leaden skies periodically lit up by bolts of lightning, we had some of the most edge-of-the-seat thrillers of any Revival. And when there is torrential rain at Goodwood, British cars seem to fare much better… maybe they are just more used to it.

The CKL team fielded two cars in the Freddie March Memorial Trophy - the mighty XK140 Gomm Special, driven by Rick Wilmott and Tarek Mahmoud - and the ex-Masten Gregory C-type driven by Hans-Martin Schneeberger and Marcel Fässler (3x Le Mans winner).
In the Fordwater Trophy we ran the ex-Jackie Oliver Lotus Elan 26R, and in the Sussex Trophy we had two Lister ‘Costin’ sports racing cars, driven by John Spiers and Max Lynn.
We also supplied two of the safety cars - the silver E-type was there, as it has been in previous years - and a last minute request from Goodwood for a second car meant that we also supplied Claire Keith-Lucas’ XK150. The car looked fantastic leading the field of the final race of the meeting - the St. Mary’s Trophy Part II, roof lights flashing in the heavy rain.
‘The car came in for a lot of praise for it’s wet weather handling, and on at least one occasion when they were going too fast, they were asked to slow up and let the actual racing cars catch up.’
Chris Keith-Lucas
Everyone really enjoyed their weekend. There was rain which really showed the skills of the drivers, there were bright spots, and everything we ran came in undamaged and with smiling faces. Thank you to the Duke of Richmond and the Goodwood team for organising a fantastic weekend of racing, and as always, thanks to everyone at CKL for all of their hard work.
